Course Goal

“To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and using a pistol safely.”NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course Lesson Plans

This course is 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning about revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.  In it students will get the NRA's The Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook and intensive lessons in safety, gun handling, the various types of pistols, the fundamentals of pistol marksmanship, various pistol firing positions, several practical exercises on the firing range, cleaning, storage, and a summary of pistol sports and activities.

This NRA Basic Pistol Class will qualify applicants for all Massachusetts firearms licenses (LTC A and FID card). Successful participants will receive both the NRA Basic Pistol Certificate and the Mass State Police BFS Certificate.  To obtain your permit, you must be 21 years old or older in order to apply and  cannot have a criminal record.  If you have more question about this course please contact us.

Prerequisites - No Criminal Record

Course Completion

Students will receive feedback on the live-fire exercise and  both the NRA Basic Pistol Certificate and the Mass State Police BFS Certificate  upon successful completion of the lessons.  Students will receive a "Basic Practical" rocker upon successful demonstration of firing a qualifying "group".  There is a short written test on the lesson material at the end of the course.
